On any Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of the month you can come downtown and visit the Farmers Market.
Market shopping is the best kind of shopping, it is an incredible way to eat fresh and smart. It is also a terrific way of supporting your local community and ensuring that the quality of your produce, meats and cheeses are top notch.
The ability to communicate with the growers and vendors is my favorite part of the market. It adds a character element to the experience, you get to know farmers and vendors by name and develop relationships with them; this makes supporting those locally even more important.
Over the years the market has expanded to include, bakery fresh breads, fresh cut and potted flowers, local honey, seafood, meats, beef and ethnic food selections, truly appealing to all the eclectic tastes that make up our community.
Market Hours:
Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 6 am to 3 pm.
The market is open year-round.
Location:
Market Square, 91 King St., on the corner of King and James streets
I love the Market so much. I think any resident in St. Catharines has to visit there once in the summer. I love to go there because the quality is amazing, and I have become known to one of the people there. Now I cannot wait till next market day to go. Love the fact that you posted about this!
ReplyDeleteI love the market. I really enjoy the summer at the market, as I find there is a larger selection of product. Can't wait for this upcoming season.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to the Market even though I've lived downtown for the past three years. I definitely have to change this - I have no excuse since you've included the days and times.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in St. Catharines and the market seemed larger when I was younger than it does now. Maybe this isn't truly the case. I used to always attend Ottawa's farmer's market, yet never go to the one here.
ReplyDeleteYou've inspired me to head back though.
I've always meant to go to the Farmer's Market but have yet to. Thanks for re-inspiring me and listing the hours!
ReplyDeleteI live so close to the Market and I have never been. I'm doing my internship with the St. Catharines Downtown Association, so I am sure that I won't be able to get away with this much longer. Once school is over, I will definitely make it a regular occurrence.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the market! A wonderful way to eat non genetically modified foods AND support local farmers. We should be able to speak to the people that produce our foods and we have moved away from that due to big box stores, this is a great way to go back to the way it should be...in my opinion. Thanks Shannon
